The Qinghai Tibetan Medicine and Culture Museum, also known as the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum, is the world's only comprehensive museum dedicated to Tibetan medicine and culture. Integrating collection, preservation, display, and research of Tibetan culture, its holdings possess rare historical, scientific, and artistic value. It has become a highly influential cultural stronghold on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, serving as a unique cultural and tourism landmark distinctively characteristic of the plateau.
The museum is divided into two branches, the northern and southern halls, with a collection of over 60,000 cultural relics. The museum features 12 permanent exhibition halls, including Tibetan Medical History, Mantang Instruments, Tibetan Medicine Specimens, Astronomy and Astrology, Tibetan Health Preservation, and Ethnic Clothing, presenting the profound and extensive traditional Tibetan culture from all sides and multiple perspectives.
The museum's crown jewel, "A Grand Panorama of Tibetan Polychrome Art," is truly breathtaking. This massive Thangka, measuring 618 meters in length and covering an area of 1,500 square meters, incorporates over 700 individual Thangka paintings and more than 3,000 types of piled-embroidery patterns. It is the longest Thangka in the world, with content that encompasses everything, earning it the reputation as an "encyclopedia" of Tibetan culture.
Over the years, the museum has leveraged its collection resources to actively promote the Party's ethnic policies and protect and pass on the excellent traditional cultures of China's minority ethnic groups. Piece by piece, precious cultural relics and exquisite Thangka paintings vividly narrate the history of exchanges, interactions, and integration among various ethnic groups in the plateau, continuously enhancing local cultural soft power and showcasing the unique cultural charm of magnificent Qinghai to both domestic and international audiences.
